The beaches on Koh Pha-Ngan are some of the best in the Gulf of Thailand, and remain more popluar for people wishing to avoid the crowds of Koh Samui. Ao Chao Phao is one of the reasons the west became so popular in the early days due to its beautiful sunset views and softly curved bay that is the image of paradise. Most of the land along the coastline has been farmed as coconut plantation and the area takes on a dreamy desert island feel with palms leaning in to the calm emerald sea. Had Rin Nai (west) is split into two halves by a small rocky foothill, thus the southern section is accessed from the pier side of Had Rin town and the northern section can be reached from the main road at the bottom of the Had Rin hills. The reef is about 100 metres from the beach and once crossed the rich coral and vibrant sea life are an attraction for many divers and snorkellers.

PAC began based in a small building behind the main high school on the island, then moved to its current premises in Wok Tum in May 2008. PAC is a non-profit organisation, developed to provide essential care for the many ill and suffering stray animals of Koh PhaNgan. PAC has been operating since September 2001 as a non-profit nursing clinic providing medical treatment for all animals. We aim to greatly improve the quality of life of PhaNgan's animals by providing emergency relief and nursing care. A wooden bridge now connects Lighthouse Bungalows to Haad Rin Beach whilst still retaining the away from it all feel. Walk along the bridge for about two minutes then you will be at Lighthouse Bungalows. If you arrive in Tong sala, the best way to Lighthouse Bungalows is to take a taxi to Haad Rin Beach, which is about 20 minutes away along long winding beautiful roads, approximatley 50 Baht per person. There is still bit of the old Phangan vibe in some of the bungalow resorts and you can get far away from the maddening crowd in Had Rin, whilst still being able to pop in for a midnight visit to 7-Eleven. Follow this way to Leela Beach and Coco Hut and walk along the beach past all these bungalows until you come to a small wooden bridge.
